Coming up with new dates is never easy, but there’s no end to great experiences here in Grand Rapids. Home to some of the hottest arts and music festivals in the Midwest, everyone looks forward to one or two events throughout the year. Even when there’s no Art Prize or Festival, there are still plenty of Grand Rapids events and adventures to try. Here are a few of our favorites:
1. Enjoy a Local Meal
Grand Rapids is the proud home of so many fantastic local eateries and restaurants, so why choose a chain? At any price point, you can eat local, support the Grand Rapids economy, and impress your date. Many restaurants in the Grand Rapids area also boast locally sourced ingredients, making for a fresher dish and a totally West Michigan experience. Head to an old favorite or try a new cuisine – with so many options, it’s almost impossible to run out!
2. Grab a Coffee…
Coffee shops and roasters dot the streets of downtown GR, dispersing slightly as you move further away from the tall buildings. The people of Grand Rapids certainly appreciate artisanal food and drink, and coffee is no exception. Snag a coffee or tea and enjoy the different atmospheres of our many cafes, or take your drinks to go and stroll around a snow-covered city. There’s a reason coffee dates are so common: what’s better than a good conversation and a hot cup of joe.
3. …or a Drink
For when coffee isn’t the drink you’re looking for, check out Grand Rapids’ many breweries, distilleries, and wineries. We aren’t called Beer City for nothing! Grab an Uber or take a walking tour of the many drink destinations downtown for an easygoing day of tasting, or make it into drinks and dinner, as many hot boozy destinations also have local-favorite food options.
4. Get Creative
We’ve gushed before about all the fun and exciting options to get your art on in GR: Frederick Meijer Gardens, Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM), the Urban Institute of Contemporary Art (UICA), and more. Experience art from far away places and times, let it take your breath away! Or, get hands-on with your art and come enjoy a painting class with yours truly! Doing a fun, creative activity is a great way to get to know your date, and with plenty of opportunities to eat, drink, and laugh, our studio is a great date destination.
5. Catch a Show
Not so much into visual art? Take in a show, theater or music, at Grand Rapids’ many venues and stages. From classical concerts to local artists, from community to school productions, there’s a show for every taste happening – if you know where to look!
With Grand Rapids events and activities galore, you and your date should never get bored. Let us know your favorite dates around West Michigan on our social media!
